Okay, I am a huge believer in being positive and that being positive has helped me along the way but I am so over people saying that positive thoughts can heal all ailments. I like this article about what can be wrong with 'mindfulness'. That can be another word for demands for 'positive thinking' - demands which we disabled people know so well. The article's author, Melissa Karnaze, draws on her experience of living in the United States and remembering her Chinese grandfather.

If you, or somebody you love, has chronic pain you might like this blog post. I can't say that I agree with the part about animals not complaining. They complain in their own languages which, if we spend time with them, we can understand. I don't agree with the part about GOD either but each to their own. There are a lot of memes that go around on Facebook. Today I saw two of them that were just so incredibly ignorant I could hardly believe it. I choose to call them "oversimplified" because they try to take something complex -- the definition of "disability" and the use of drugs and medication to treat diseases -- and over-simplify it into a meme.

I've written before on this comm about Jane Powell's 'Meditations for Women'. The LJ user who posts these daily meditations is a member of friendly_crips and she tells me that she likes my snark.
